Activities in the Great Smoky Mountains
My spending holidays in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience of life. There are different activities that I enjoyed while spending time there. I enjoyed a lot as there were so many activities to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. Some of the important activities that I enjoyed during my trip are discussed here:
Camping: Base camps are provided at various places where you may erect your tents and enjoy. Rest rooms are also provided to take rest, have your meals and watch beautiful tress and birds chirping on the trees. These camp grounds are provided on the first come first serve basis and around 6-7 people can accommodate in one camp ground. I also enjoyed camping with my friends and it was a fabulous experience.
Fishing: River streams flow along the Great Smoky Mountains. Fishing is another important and enjoyable activity permitted in the park. You should have a valid fishing license to enjoy fishing. It is not available in the park itself but you may find it in the nearby towns such as Gatlinburg and Cherokee. I possess a fishing license and enjoyed fishing with my friends.
Hiking: When you explore through the Great Smoky Mountains you will find hiking trails to experience the natural flora and fauna of the mountains. I went during spring as spring is the best time to hike in these trails as temperature is mild. In winters, you may see snow covered mountains whereas in summers you may enjoy cool and fresh air blowing in the forest. We took a known guide with us as we all were new to the area and did not have any experience. We moved softly and enjoyed going on the trail and returned back to our cabins in gatlinburg tn before sunset as it was our first time.
Horseback riding: You may enjoy the outdoors by joining horseback riding. It is fun and exciting outdoor activity. I got a horse on rent and move on special trails made for the movement of horses and enjoyed the beautiful forest.
Water rafting: Water rafting is the most adventurous activity. Anyone can enjoy rafting and no special training or experience is required for doing water rafting. I also went for water rafting and it was a great experience as I did it for the first time in my life. At first I was a bit scared but when I went in to the river it was enjoyable.
Biking: Biking is another outdoor activity that is enjoyable and adventurous. Biking along the Cades cove loop road provides you an opportunity to view natural and beautiful sights. We took bicycles on rent and went through the Cades cove loop road. I found wide variety of plants and animals along the way. Cades cove loop road is made for bicyclists to move around and motor vehicle traffic is not allowed through this route on some special days of the week so that visitors may enjoy the wild life comfortable. There are other trails also made for cyclists and mountain trails are not available in this region.
